Bonus: “Sanford and Son” was the most popular show on NBC for the first four of the show’s five-season run (1972-1977). The show earned seven Emmy nominations and won star Redd Foxx the Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actor in a Series – Musical/Comedy in 1973, for the show’s first season.

Final Word: Norman Lear struck television gold again with this rollicking funny series. Foxx knew he had the part of his career and played it for everything it was worth plus some. He’s perfectly matched with Wilson whose comic timing is the show’s secret weapon. They just don’t make television-comedy series, anyway-like “Sanford and Son” and “The Jeffersons” anymore!
