ASGCC Protests Budget Cuts

The Associated Students of Glendale Community College have responded to Gov. Gray Davis’ slashing of $98 million from the community colleges budget with letters of protests from all 26 student officers and postcards for students to sign and send to the governor.

The governor slashed funding earmarked for instructional equipment and maintenance – a move that is has been protested by local state representatives as well as campus administration, faculty and students.

ASGCC President Dan Wengert said, “It is important for the governor to know that we students are also potential voters, and what he has done may reflect on whether he’s elected again.”

The postcards state that the governor’s move “degrades the quality of education for students like me by cutting necessary equipment, and exposes us to unsafe and uncomfortable classrooms.” They are available at the ASGCC office in the Sierra Madre building
