Sophomore Kim Lorimer broke another school record by winning the WSC title in the 10,000-meter prelims Saturday at Citrus College. Her time of 37:48.5 broke the previous record by two minutes.

Lorimer led two other Glendale runners who finished in the top five. Gladis Martinez finished fourth setting a personal record with a time of 41:43.1, and Nancy Lopez finished fifth with a time of 43:09.

In the 800 meters, Lena Daniels won her heat, and Nania and Ani Bagumyan both finished second in their heats to qualify for the Southern California finals on Saturday.

Lara Manouchehri also qualified for the finals with a fifth place finish in the 1,500 meters with a time of 5:28.69.

For the men, Alejandro Lemus led Glendale to a sweep in the 10,000 meters to win the conference title with a time of 32:14.75. Jorge Lopez finished second with a time of 32:22.82, and Marco Arriaga was third with a time of 32:23.39, and Jorge Banquelos finished sixth.

“Most of the athletes we thought were going to advance did,” coach Eddie Lopez said. “We’re strong from the 800 to the 10,000.”

Mike Serratos qualified for Saturday’s finals by winning his heat in the 800 with a time of 1:57.8.

“Mike should probably win the 800,” coach Lopez said.

For the men, Glendale will start off on the steeplechase, an event coach Lopez thinks his team has a good chance of finishing in the top four. Daniel Hurt isn’t expected to run because he has already qualified for the Southern California prelims. He is an automatic qualifier in the 800 for the Southern California Prelims.

For the women, coach Lopez thinks that Kim Lorimer has a good chance of winning the 3,000 and 5,000. Martinez and Lopez also have a good chance to score on Saturday. Martinez will run in the 3,000, and Lopez will run in both the 3,000 and 5,000.

There are also high expectations for the women’s 1,600 relay on Saturday. “We have a chance of really doing well,” coach Lopez said
