CROSS COUNTRY

The men’s cross country team reaffirmed its dominance by winning its seventh straight Western State Conference title and its 14th in the last 17 years Friday at Pierce College. The women’s team came in second, barely missing winning its own championship by two points.
The Vaqueros won with a cumulative score of 52 points.
The impressive showing by the Glendale women was not enough for first place with Ventura finishing first with 52 points. Glendale was a few steps behind finishing second with 54 and Bakersfield was third with 79.

The Vaqueros will run again in the Southern California Championships Saturday at 10 a.m. at Mt. San Antonio College.

MEN’S SOCCER

The Glendale men’s soccer team scratched and clawed its way to a 1-0 win against previously undefeated Mission team on Halloween at the Glendale Sports Complex.

The lone goal came when Alex Proca scored in the 18th minute of the first half. The end-of-regulation whistle sent the Glendale players into a frenzy of celebration at mid-field in the pivotal game.
“Desire is what got us through this game,” said head coach Joe Agoston. ” It was 90 minutes of focus and heart.”

WOMEN’S SOCCER

Jorge Mena’s women’s soccer team was dealt a 2-1 loss by Pierce on Friday at the Glendale Sports Complex.

Both goals for Pierce came on headers from corner kicks, revealing the Vaqueros’ lack of size. Glendale’s only goal of the game came on a penalty kick by Abby Castellon after Anabel Cortez was brought down near the goal.

“They fought with us until the last minute.” Pierce’s head coach Adolfo Perez said.

Vaquero’s head coach Jorge Mena said he did not mind losing because the team played with a lot of passion.

VOLLEYBALL

Glendale added two games to its loss column after falling in three games to Santa Monica and Canyons. Glendale is now 0-13 overall and 0-8 in WSC play.
