As the athletes and coaches get ready for the summer after grueling seasons, let’s take a look back at how the sports of the spring semester fared.

Men’s Tennis

This tennis team, led by Western State Conference head coach of the year Bob MacKay, was said to be the best team in the school’s history. The team finished the season 15-4 and advanced to the finals of the Southern California Regionals. They finished third-ranked in the state.
Freshman Stanley Sarapanich earned All-American honors when he advanced to the semifinals of the state championships. Sarapanich, the WSC Co-Player of the Year for the WSC Champion Vaqueros, was ranked the fourth ranked player in the state. Sarapanich was also named all-WSC first-team at singles with Sergy Vagramian, Hakop Tadevosian, Haik Kassabian and Kevin White. The doubles team of Nick Amico and Chris Hernandez were named to the all-WSC first-team.

Track and Field

Sprinter Corey Lenaris and distance runner Omar Limon concluded their careers at Glendale College by scoring two points each for the Vaqueros at the state meet at American River College in Sacramento on May 14. Lenaris finished seventh in the 100 meters in 10.92, and Limon finished seventh in the 3000-meter steeplechase in 10:08. Glendale finished 39th in the team competition.

Lenaris was also the WSC champion in the 100 and 200 meters this season and Limon was the conference champion in the 3000 meter steeplechase.

Baseball

Seven Glendale players earned All-WSC Southern Division honors. All-WSC first team selections were infielder Daniel Lee, designated hitter Blake Gailen and pitcher Billy Spottiswood. Infielder Daniel Gomez was named to the All-WSC second team. Catcher Brett Urie, infielder David Quintana and outfielder Bryan Aguila were named honorable mentions.
The Vaqueros finished the season 13-25 overall and 9-15 in the WSC South.

Softball

Miki Mayorga was named to the all-WSC second-team and Kristin Carr and Christine Kula were named honorable mentions.
The Vaqueros finished the year 11-13 in Western State Conference and 13-25 overall.

Women’s Tennis

Mao Okuda advanced to the Southern California regionals in singles and in doubles with partner Anna-Alicia Araujo.
The Vaqueros finished the season 2-10 in WSC and 2-11 overall.

The fall sports are gearing up for their respective regular seasons. The basketball, soccer, volleyball and football teams all have high hopes, and who knows, maybe one of them will have as great a season as the men’s tennis team did.
