Bob McMillen Outstanding Athletic Achievement
Bob McMillen won the National Junior College Championship in the 1500 meters while running for Glendale in 1948 and later won the silver medal in the 1952 Olympics in Helsinki in the same event. He also qualified for the 1948 Olympics in London in the steeplechase.
Bob Gagliano Outstanding Athletic Achievement
Bob Gagliano led the 1977 Vaquero football team to the Western State Conference title, the school’s first in football, and was named All-American that season. He played 14 years in the NFL as quarterback.
Abe Androff Outstanding Coach
Androff was nominated for his 22 years as coach of the men’s basketball team from 1955 until 1977. He won 324 games to rank No. 2 on the school’s all-time list in men’s basketball. His 1958-59 team won the Western State Conference title and his 1962 team featured John Block, who later played at USC and for 10 years in the NBA. He also coached golf at Glendale Community College.
Juno Stover Pillar of Achievement
Juno Stover attended the college in the late 1940’s. Stover competed in four straight Olympics in platform diving from 1948 to 1960 and won a bronze medal in 1952 in Helsinki and a silver medal in Melbourne in 1956 in that event.
1983 Men’s Soccer Outstanding Team
The 1983 Men’s soccer team won the state championship that year with a 4-1 win over Skyline College in the rain at Glendale High and finished the season 18-3-1. The Vaqueros were coached by Cherif Zein who also coached the 1979 GCC men’s soccer team to a state championship.
