Espino, Delgado Lead Track Teams in Santa Monica

Competing in Santa Monica last Friday against Valley, Bakersfield, and Santa Monica, the Vaquero track team held their own.

In the men’s division, Humberto Espino stood atop the podium in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:07.3. Vaquero teammate Omar Limon finished third in 9:16.2. In the 1,500 meters, Espino placed 2nd in 4:09.1. Argisti Beglaryan finished second in the 800 meters in 2:02. In the 400 meters, David Catchings finished third in 50:08, and the 100 meters saw Greg Mitchell finish in third with a time of 11.3.

On the women’s side of things, Pilar Delgado came through and won the 3,000 meters in 10:42.3, as well as the 1,500 meters in a personal best of 4:57.2. Sandra Prado topped the podium in the 800 meters in 2:28.1, with Stephanie Fabia taking first as well in the 400 meters in 1:02.3
“Pilar Delgado has been doing extremely well,” coach Tom McMurray said. “She has the top times in the state in the 3,000 meters, but her main event is the 5,000 meters.”

Other standouts on the team include Naira Bagumyan, who is one of the top women’s runners in Southern California, Sandra Prado, who has the fastest 1,500 meters time in Southern California, and Stephanie Fabia.
For the men, Chris Wells-Anders held the top time in the 800 meters at the USC Invitational with a time of 1:54.2. Humberto Espino also has some of the top times in the Western State Conference in the 1,500 meters.

The team will compete today at Cuesta against Moorpark and Valley Colleges.
