The Vaqueros advanced to 3-0 in round 1 of the WSC Conference Matches, terrorizing Citrus College and winning 5-0.
In the first half, Glendale was on the move, but could not catch a break.
Three of their shots failed to make their way into the goal, as they deflected off the posts. Feeling a little frustrated with the score still 0-0 late in the half, Martin Melena finally put one in.
“We need to make better decisions,” said coach Joe Agoston during the half. “What’s important is teamwork.”
Going into the second half 1-0, Glendale was looking to put the game away, and the Vaqueros succeeded. They dominated Citrus, scoring four more times with goals from Jose Lopez, Ivan Martinez and Victor Garcia who contributed two goals.
“Teamwork is what it is about,” Agoston said after the game. “We played much better in the second half.”
The Vaqueros, who also handed losses to Mission (3-1) and Oxnard (3-2) last week, plan on improving their record to 4-0 in the first round. They will travel to Moorpark today as they take on the Raiders at 4 p.m.
