At a special board meeting Friday, the GCC Board of Trustees voted unanimously to appoint a new member to fill the seat left vacant by the unannounced resignation of Board President Dr. Kathleen Burke-Kelly on Sept. 19.
The board did not wish to hold an election, citing costs of up to $150,000. The provisional member will serve on the five-member board until regular elections are held in April 2007. The board had 60 days to fill the vacancy.
A “paper screening committee” made up of several college constituencies, including the GCC chapter of the California Schools Employees Association, Associated Students of Glendale College and the GCC Guild will be formed, and the board will utilize the consultant Community College Search Services (CCSS) to assist the board with the hiring process. CCSS’s services were previously utilized to appoint a superintendent/president, following the retirement of long-time GCC head John A. Davitt.
More information will be available in the Oct. 6 issue of El Vaquero.
