Online UpdateGCC Board of Trustees Vote to Appoint New Member

At a special board meeting Friday, the GCC Board of Trustees voted unanimously to appoint a new member to fill the seat left vacant by the unannounced resignation of Board President Dr. Kathleen Burke-Kelly on Sept. 19.

The board did not wish to hold an election, citing costs of up to $150,000. The provisional member will serve on the five-member board until regular elections are held in April 2007. The board had 60 days to fill the vacancy.

A “paper screening committee” — made up of several college constituencies, including the GCC chapter of the California Schools Employees Association, Associated Students of Glendale College and the GCC Guild — will be formed, and the board will utilize the consultant Community College Search Services (CCSS) to assist the board with the hiring process. CCSS’s services were previously utilized to appoint a superintendent/president, following the retirement of long-time GCC head John A. Davitt.

More information will be available in the Oct. 6 issue of El Vaquero.
