A special meeting has been scheduled for Friday at 8 a.m. in the J. W. Smith Student Center by the Glendale Community College Board of Trustees.

The members will discuss whether they will appoint a new president or hold a special election to fill the seat left vacant by Board of Trustees President Dr. Kathleen Burke-Kelly. The position must be filled within 60 days.

On Sept. 19, Burke-Kelly submitted her resignation from the board to the Los Angeles County Superintendent of Schools.

Dr. Armine Hacopian is now the acting board president.

According to Ann Ransford, director of communications, marketing and Foundation, Burke-Kelly’s resignation was a surprise to her fellow board members. Burke-Kelly didn’t elaborate on the reasons for her resignation, but stated that it was for personal reasons, said Ransford.
