With finals approaching at Glendale Community College, numerous campus resources and study techniques remain unfamiliar to students. For instance, these math workshop series at Glendale Community College that are recurring include readiness boot camps for Calculus and statistics preparation workshops. The calculus readiness boot camps one and two take place from Monday to Wednesday, 12-2 pm in SG 325/6. The statistics preparation workshop occurs on Tuesdays between 12:30 and 2:30 pm in TG 108. These additional programs are aimed at assisting students in establishing a strong base in these essential subjects. Thereby improving their preparedness for advanced classes at no cost. There are no eligibility requirements for the boot camps, and an RSVP link will be on the flyer for the winter 2025 workshops.
The math division offers 3 boot camps for (Calc 1, 2, and statistics) every short session to prepare students for regular session classes. These workshops provide seminars covering various subjects, lasting around 60 minutes and addressing key mathematical abilities of the workshop’s leader. While visiting the math division office at Glendale Community College, Hassakoursian was asked about her involvement in the summer math workshop series. Hassakoursian discussed her experiences and perspectives, highlighting how the program aids students in improving their competencies in Algebra, Math 103 and 104, and trigonometry by designing handouts and making presentations how they see fit. Her excitement and gratitude for the workshop were evident as she talked about the encouraging atmosphere and the helpful materials offered by the Learning Center. For students getting ready for their finals in these math classes, recommendations are to develop a study plan, practice problems consistently, ask for assistance when necessary, and take advantage of available resources. Keeping organized and encouraging a positive mindset is essential for achieving success.
Hassakoursian observed that the boot camp’s success and productiveness are evaluated by pre-and post-assessments, student feedback, and tracking academic performance in later courses. These measures assist in assessing the effectiveness of the boot camp and pinpointing aspects that need enhancement. Frequently remaining after classes to guarantee that each student comprehends the content. She also valued the small class sizes that facilitated more individualized attention and a cooperative learning environment.
Hassakoursian also pointed out that the workshop was connected to real-life situations. In general, she thought that the summer math workshop series played a key role in enhancing others’ confidence and getting them ready for upcoming educational challenges.
