As the Fall 2024 Semester kicked off, so did the Fall 2024 Scholarship application process. The application is now open until Oct. 25. The scholarships provide countless opportunities for new and returning students to earn money. It’s important to get your application in on time, as late applications might not be considered.
By filling out one application, students can be eligible for over 500 scholarships. The application consists of general information about the student, activities, and employment information as well as two short essays and one personal statement. The application can also be a great opportunity for students to work on their essay topics before college applications are due.
“It is important that students apply for scholarships because they are designed to reward, motivate, and accommodate students while they pursue their academic goals. Scholarships are created for students to further their academics and career goals,” said Aida Avanousian, the scholarship coordinator.
Avanousian has been presenting to the student-athletes on the importance of applying for scholarships as well as how they have an edge in applying. Because there are so many scholarships, there is something for everyone. Whether it’s being a student-athlete, or having leadership experience, there is so much money out there, the department wants students to know.
“The scholarship program helped me to a great extent,” said Ivania Asadoorian, a sophomore student ambassador at the Welcome Center. “By receiving a scholarship, I was able to have so much tranquility and peace with future expenses towards my education. I was able to truly focus on studying and learning the material in my classes rather than stressing about school tuition.”
The scholarship program has provided countless opportunities for students, and it is a great way to help students pay for college, and materials they might need during their time at GCC.
Some application tips include starting as early as possible and taking the time to write your personal statement. Others are, staying on top of the deadline, (Oct. 25), as well as having someone else read your personal statement.
“The scholarship program at GCC is a great way for students to earn money for their hard work towards their careers in the present and in the future,” Asadoorian added.“The application provides college students with the ability to truly express what is going on in their lives. A student can communicate their determination towards future career goals, giving them the chance to receive scholarships.”
Students can make appointments over Zoom for support on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays to discuss their application or get their questions answered.
