Keeping Their Head in the Clouds

GCC’s Aviation Club president Gloria ‘GG’ Pammit talks about her passion

“I joined the highly recommended GCC Aviators Club in Fall of 2022 and enjoyed it so much that I wanted to be a part of the board,” said Gloria “GG” Pammit, president of GCC’s Aviators Club, in an interview with El Vaquero. “Soon after, I sought being president.”

As such a passionate member, Pammit suggests GCC’s aviation club for all those who have a curiosity and interest in the world of aviation and air travel. The club’s goal is to cultivate relationships and develop the interests of aspiring pilots and enthusiasts alike.

Club meetings are held every Tuesday from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. via Zoom where members can listen to guest speakers, including aviation “legends [like] Bruce Allport, Dave Hopkins, Tony Byrnes and Leanne Powers and radio controller Guy Blackwell,” Pammit said.

In previous semesters, Aviation Club members learned firsthand from experienced pilots. Topics discussed have ranged from “Aviation Job Opportunities” to deep dives into the world of piloting with “Airport Markings” and “Use of the trim wheel in GCC’s C-172N aircraft and trim controls generally.”

While other upcoming events are still in the works, Pammit there is always the joy in hearing members participate in the EAA Airventure, an annual July airshow and aviation meet up at Oshkosh, Wisc. “[A] traditional pilgrimage,” she described it, “among pilots since 1953!”

Pammit advised that interested students “make the time and get involved.”
