In cooperation with the Glendale police department, campus police arranged for the Glendale S.W.A.T. team to hold a training exercise at GCC on Jan 9. Police took over the Advanced Technology building with a faux hostage situation in one of the classrooms and practiced rescue moves with snipers, gas masks and a remotely operated bomb robot. Officers posing as kidnappers were captured after they demanded a bottle of coke in exchange for the hostages. S.W.A.T. then moved in to make the arrests. Campus police sergeant Samir Abou Rass was on hand to observe.
