The one rock band that can burst into lyrics with intense expressions of love, hate, anger, obsession and still manage to miraculously fit women’s apparel into their show have finally returned to disc!
The Foo Fighters long-awaited forthcoming album “One by One” displays the band’s powerful sound.
The Foo Fighters include former Nirvana drummer-turned-vocalist Dave Grohl, former Alanis Morissette drummer and boyfriend Taylor Hawkins, guitarist Chris Shiffle and bassist Nate Mendel.
The first single, “All My Life,” has already caught the attention of MTV2 viewers and KROQ listeners as Grohl’s strong vocals vibrate throughout the song.
The song starts off with the soft introduction: “All my life I’ve been searching for something/Something never comes, never leads to nothing/Nothing satisfies but I’m getting close, closer to the prize at the end of the rope/All night long I dream of the day, when it comes around then it’s taken away/Leaves me with the feeling I feel the most, the feeling comes to life when I see your ghost.”
Among the 11 tracks, there are two slow-paced songs, “Disenchanted Lullaby” and “Tired of You,” that touch on the need for giving and being loved.
In “Disenchanted Lullaby” the lyrics describe the imperfections of a soul mate:
“I may be scattered, a little shattered/ What does it matter? No one has a fit like I do/ I’m the only one that’s fits you.” Hawkins’ soothing drumbeats provide a mellow accompaniment.
While the Foo Fighters were trapped in Grohl’s basement for months giving birth to “One by One,” the band is taking advantage of being set free. With a show scheduled Saturday in Mountain View, they will also perform the KROQ Halloween Ball with the Red Hot Chili Peppers at the Wiltern Theater that same day.
The Foo Fighters’ previous albums include “There is Nothing Left to Lose,” (1999) “The Colour and the Shape,” (1997) and their self-titled first album released in 1995.
The song “Comeback” ends the album with the words: “Stuck in the middle, no-ones making a move/I’m looking in and I’ve got nothing to lose/I will comeback, I will comeback, I will comeback, I will comeback for you.”
“One by One” is currently in stores.
