”Home is where the heart is” or so they say. I’m not sure exactly who says it, but Alabama is defiantly home for some people in Touchstone’s new film “Sweet Home Alabama.”
Set in other than the blatantly obvious Alabama, this romantic comedy keeps audiences mesmerized until the very last second.
Melanie Carmichael, played by Reese Witherspoon, who couldn’t be more perfect for the part, is a plain old girl from the South.
Convinced that there’s more to her life than the laid-back life in the south, she leaves for New York to make something of herself.
Seven years later, she has a flourishing career, a wonderful new look, and New York’s most eligible bachelor wants to marry her. There’s just one thing standing in her way – her husband!
Directed by Andy Tennant, the cast of “Sweet Home Alabama” delivers a performance like none other. Jake, played by Josh Lucas, is the perfect country compliment to the South side of Melanie as Andrew (Patrick Dempsey), is the epitome of her life in New York.
The movie is about falling in love with your soul mate all over again, but it’s not the usual set up where you would expect to see Melanie with Jake in the end. That would be too dull and monotonous. The storyline makes things a little more complicated by making you choose between a great guy, and the right guy?
You don’t find out until the very end, and just when you think you know it, something comes along and throws you right off again.
This movie is a real treat for anyone in need of a good laugh and a good love story. It just goes to show you that there is that one special person for everyone in the world, you just need to know where to look.
“Sweet Home Alabama” opens in theaters nationwide today.
