Letters to the Editor

FORMER TRUSTEE WRITES

Dear Editor,

As a former trustee and current member of the college family, I have been reading the El Vaquero for the past 20 years.
I am writing to compliment you and your staff for producing a great publication.
The Friday, September 27, 2002 edition was outstanding; every page contained an interesting article.
Everyone associated with the El Vaquero can take pride in being part of a top-rate publication.

– Congratulations,
Phillip C. Kazanjian
Instructor of Business Administration

RESPONSE TO A PREVIOUS ARTICLE

Dear Editor,

I noticed an article in the Sept. 27th edition “Student Wins Faculty Scholarship For Top Academic Excellence.”
Actually, three awards were given out
that da.y, another one by the Academic
Senate and an additional award known as the Homemakers Award which is given to an older student (usally a mom) who achieves academic excellence as well as manages family responsiblities (usually kids) at the same time, so she takes fewer units per semester than the average students.
I was wondering why the article neglected the other two winners and focused on just one. Is this good journalism? Does this represent favoritism, or neglect?

El Vaquero’s article about the faculty scholarships (Sept. 27) did not name Hyaelim Kim, who was also a winner. Kim declined to be interviewed for the story.
