SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, Calif. (AP) _ A retired FBI agent shot and killed his 70-year-old live-in girlfriend at their home Tuesday, then took his own life, authorities said.

Gunshots were reported at the 67-year-old man’s trailer home just before 6:30 a.m. in this city about 55 miles southeast of Los Angeles, said Orange County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Jim Amormino.

“He shot her twice, then he shot himself,” he said.

The man, who retired from the FBI about 10 years ago, had lived with the woman for about eight years, Amormino said. Their identities have been withheld pending notification of relatives.

Authorities were searching for a motive. The couple had no previous history of domestic problems and were apparently in good health, Amormino said.
