Glendale won its sixth straight in defeating Santa Barbara College 21-17 on Saturday. Quarterback Joe Kroells passed for 158 yards and
two touchdown passes. Freshman running back Kartrell Clayton rushed for 140 yards and Wes Jones ran for 95 yards. Patrick Pierre-Louis was named WSC
player of the week with six tackles, five assists, and one sack. The Vaqueros will
be going for their seventh straight win, their longest since 1992, when they face Bakersfield College on Saturday. The game could determine the Western
State Conference Champion.
Both Men’s, and Women’s teams qualified for the state meet
in Fresno on Nov. 17 at the Southern California Championships Saturday
in Antelope Valley. Both teams needed to finish in the top 14 to qualify, and the
men finished in seventh, and the women finished 12th. Henok Mulgeta was the
top finisher for the men with a time of 22:38.40 in the four-mile race. Ana
Gjesdal was the top finisher for the women in the 5,000 meter run with a
time of 21:49.60.
Glendale tied both Citrus College on Tuesday, Oct. 30,
and Bakersfield College on Friday, Nov. 2, and are 7-5-3 in conference,
and 9-9 overall.
Glendale fell to 1-9 in conference, and 1-19 overall after falling
to Citrus College 3-0,(30-14, 30-15, 30-15). The Vaqueros conclude their
season with games at Santa Monica College at Pierce College, and at home
against College of the Canyons.
