Glendale Community College defeated Los Angeles Valley College 8-2 at Stengel Field on March 28th, using explosive offense and rock-solid pitching to secure a commanding home victory.
Under clear skies and temperatures climbing into the high 80s, first pitch was set for 1 p.m., and Glendale wasted no time setting the tone. The Vaqueros came out with high energy, immediately putting pressure on LA Valley’s defense and jumping to the lead in the bottom of the first inning.
Glendale racked up the runs early, having one runner cross the plate in the first, two more runs in the second inning to build the momentum. By the end of the third inning, Glendale extended their lead to 6-0 after a three-run surge that showcased their aggressive batting and baserunning.
LA Valley struggled to respond early, held scoreless through the first three innings. The Monarchs finally scored two runs in the top of the fourth, but that would be the extent of their offense for the remainder of the game.
Glendale’s defense proved to be a major factor, consistently shutting down LA Valley’s opportunities and making quick, efficient plays. The Vaqueros recorded no errors, hit every cutoff man and showed strong communication.
Catcher Trevor Lain anchored the defensive effort behind the plate, precisely framing every pitch and keeping every pitch in front of him. Lain also contributed offensively with an RBI, helping Glendale extend their lead.
Outfielder Adonis Jenkins delivered one of the games highlight moments. The Left Fielder not only recorded two RBIs but also made an incredible diving catch to end the top of the sixth inning. His play boosted Glendale’s momentum and energized the home crowd.
Center Fielder Jackson Pratt added to the output with an RBI double to lead off the bottom of the seventh inning. Right Fielder Noah Jaquez contributed with an RBI, and later in the inning Short Stop Jackson Lyons tacked on an insurance run for Glendale with his own RBI Double.
Glendale’s pitching staff was a dominant force in the game. Anthony Yepez and Michael Guerrero displayed an impressive performance on the mound, limiting LA Valley to just two runs on six hits. Together they recorded 10 strikeouts, keeping hitters looking at pitches pass them by throughout the game.
Guerrero closed out the game with his seven strikeouts, while only allowing one hit. His 86-mph fastball proved to be too much for LA Valley’s lineup.
Glendale finished with 35 at-bats, eight runs, 11 hits and seven RBIs and only had five strikeouts. The discipline at the plate contributed to their consistent scoring across multiple innings.
With the 8-2 victory, The Vaqueros demonstrated their ability to dominate on both sides, combining strong pitching, sharp defense and aggressive hitting to control the game from start to finish.
The Vaqueros performance against LA Valley highlighted a team that is firing on all cylinders, making a clear statement, and leaving little doubt about the team’s strengths moving forward this season.
