Glendale Community College hosted an Extended Opportunity Program and Services workshop on October 15 in Room SV 223.
The session, led by GCC counselor Nicholas Bravo, focused on “Navigating College Academic Language.” The workshop provided students with practical tools and strategies for academic success.
The workshop highlighted the importance of understanding student grade point average and its impact on financial aid, transfer opportunities, scholarships, and career planning.
Bravo explained that improving GPA involves more than studying hard. Students can also utilize resources such as tutoring, office hours, and programs like EOPS to support their academic growth.
Participants received actionable study tips like effective time management, organized note-taking, breaking assignments into smaller steps, and developing consistent study habits.
The workshop also highlighted the benefits of taking STDV 100, a course designed to strengthen study skills and academic strategies.
Bravo reviewed key college policies, including Petition for Academic Renewal, the meaning of a “W” (Withdraw), the difference between Academic Probation and Progress Probation, and the Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) Appeal process.
These explanations aimed to help students better understand college policies and plan their academic paths effectively.
The workshop concluded with a question and answer session, during which students asked about EOPS eligibility and the frequency of workshops.
“EOPS benefits are available to all students and workshops are offered multiple times each semester,” Bravo said.
The EOPS workshop provides students with guidance on academic strategies, college policies, and available resources, equipping them with the knowledge needed to navigate their academic journeys successfully.
