Students running for positions in the Associated Students of Glendale Community College (ASGCC) recently shared their goals and plans for the upcoming 2026-2027 school year, forcing on campus involvement, student representation, and community engagement. ASGCC hosted an election fair where students can meet the candidates and ask questions.
Presidential candidate Mia Marekhasvili has been in ASGCC for two semesters now and she believes she is the perfect candidate for this position because she’s also part of the relations committee, it has helped her turn her ideas into reality.
As a first generation immigrant Hasvili said she wants to make sure that all students, especially the newcomers, feel represented and informed about campus resources. She believes increasing awareness of student services and feedback opportunities will help improve campus life. She also believes that this campus could use more events of culture and even for those athletes programs.
Daniela Elpatova, a candidate for vice president of activities, said she decided to run for this position because of her passion for campus life and bringing students together. Elpatova believes that student events can help create a welcoming environment and reduce academic stress.
If elected she hopes to increase attendance at campus events and make them more inclusive by collaborating with groups on campus such as LGBTQ+ and cultural organizations. She also suggested creating many events that highlight different cultures, interests, and student communities.
Leila Khchoian, a candidate for the vice president of administration, was inspired to run for this position after she saw how big of an impact ASGCC has on campus decisions. Khchoian pointed out student advocacy efforts that helped lower parking permit costs and said she wants to serve as a bridge between students and also the campus leadership. She has goals for this campus that include increasing transparency by making sure students’ government information is more accessible and improving communication between transfer resources, events, and even opportunities available to all students.
Vice president of Finance Lori Avertyan emphasized her experience as a senator in the finance committee. Avertyan said she hopes to strengthen connections between campus departments and ASGCC so that more students and organizations can be more aware of available funding opportunities. She explained that not many people here know how ASGCC helps support events, activities, and programs by funding. She also expressed interest in creating more interactive campus events that encourage students to participate in activities.
Natalia Andriassian, a candidate for vice president of organisations, highlights her experience with working with clubs on campus. Andriassian said “clubs are an important part of the GCC community” and she wants to support both large and small clubs. She plans to continue helping clubs grow by providing resources and guidance. As someone with a physical disability, Andriassian also stressed the importance of accessibility and encouraged organizations to make events more welcoming for all students.
While each candidate brings different experiences and priorities to the election, several common themes emerged throughout their campaigns. Candidates emphasized the importance of making each student be more involved, stronger communication, accessibility, and created a more welcoming environment.
Students will have the opportunity to vote and decide which candidates will represent their interest in ASGCC for the upcoming semester.
